MyZenTeam is about simplifying processes, concentrating on things that matter, creating valuable connections, and bringing more mindfulness to our workplaces.
Here are some of the rules we follow at MyZenTeam working together, thinking about how to develop the product and what we want to create for the world.
“Zen is not some kind of excitement, but concentration on our usual everyday routine.” – Shunryu Suzuki
1. Think about what is necessary and why.
What are you trying to achieve and why? What processes and people are necessary for that? There should be a clear reason why we work the way we do, why we need a meeting, a feature or if it could be done another way.
The necessary for the team might change over time with more experience. It’s ok as long as the team knows the context and why we are going in the direction. When you know why you walk, staying motivated is much easier.
2. Simplify.
It’s easy to overcomplicate things, to focus on processes instead of the outcome, to be busy, but achieve no visible result. Define what tasks take most of our time and bring the most negligible value, and what could be delegated and skipped altogether. First things first, second things. Never?
Notice what creates a sense of urgency, but wastes your energy and won’t matter in a month. We have to be mindful of why and what is important to us, our team It can be different things to different people. As long as you align as a team, your business will go forward.
3. Focus.
We designate time during your workday for important tasks. It takes time to go into deep work, focus and complete a task. Make your actions deliberate, not rushed and random. You can do less in a day, but if the tasks were important in long run and are completed now, it’s a win.
4. Develop rituals.
Rituals give a sense of importance. That might be a ritual to share a photo with your team on #momentofweek channel on Slack, a ritual to meet the team once a year or a ritual to write a public thank you message to team members once a week. It can be anything you want. Anything that makes people engaged, connected, and in sync.
5. Evolve.
Evolution is the foundation of the world. Everyone constantly changes. Seasons, kids grow, the sun rises & sets. That's the only way.
It’s better to take responsibility for changes and don’t wait for them to come. We are mindful of how we spend time and use our energy. We seek alternative perspectives, make bets for the future and don’t get stuck in the status quo.
Decision-making is connected with our emotions. The more passionate we are about our work and life, the more mindful we are, the more open-minded we are, and the better decisions we make.
